What size is right for Me?

Goldendoodles are a popular breed that are known for their friendly and affectionate personalities, as well as their hypoallergenic coat. They are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, and come in a variety of sizes, depending on the size of the Poodle parent.

The three main sizes of Goldendoodles are:

  1. Miniature Goldendoodles: These are the smallest of the Goldendoodle varieties, and are usually between 14 and 18 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 15 and 30 pounds.
  2. Medium Goldendoodles: These are slightly larger than Miniature Goldendoodles, usually between 18 and 22 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 30 and 45 pounds.
  3. Standard Goldendoodles: These are the largest of the Goldendoodle varieties, usually between 22 and 29 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 45 and 90 pounds.

It is also worth noting that there are variations in size within each of these categories, as well as variations in coat type and color. Some Goldendoodles may have a wavy or curly coat, while others may have a straighter coat. They can also come in a variety of colors, including cream, gold, apricot, and red.

Overall, Doodles are a great choice for families and individuals looking for a friendly and loving companion that does not shed much. They are also a good choice for those with allergies, as their coat is hypoallergenic. With the variety of sizes available, you can choose the one that best fits your lifestyle and living space.

Goldendoodle Coats and Coat Care

There are three main types of Goldendoodle coats: straight, wavy, and curly.

Straight coats are the least common and are the most similar to the coat of a Golden Retriever.

Wavy coats are more common and have a slight wave to them, while curly coats are the most common and have tight, springy curls.

The coat of a Goldendoodle can also come in a variety of colors, including cream, apricot, red, and chocolate. The color of a Goldendoodle's coat is determined by the genes inherited from its parents, with the most common color being cream or apricot. The color of a Goldendoodle's coat can change as the dog gets older, with some dogs developing a darker coat as they mature.

Because they are a  designer breed  cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, and the coat type and texture can vary depending on the generation of the Goldendoodle.

F1 Goldendoodles are the first generation of the breed and are a 50/50 mix of Golden Retriever and Poodle.

These Goldendoodles will have a coat that is a mix of both the Golden Retriever's wavy or straight hair and the Poodle's curly coat.

The coat of an F1 Goldendoodle can be anywhere from wavy to curly and can be low to moderate in shedding. Juno our Golden retriever carries 2 genes for Low shed, her puppies will be F1s very low to non-shedding.

F1b Goldendoodles are a cross between an F1 Goldendoodle and a Poodle. These Goldendoodles will have a coat that is curlier and may be less shedding than an F1 Goldendoodle. The coat of an F1b Goldendoodle can range from wavy to curly and may be low to non-shedding.

F1bb Goldendoodles are a cross between an F1b Goldendoodle and a Poodle. These Goldendoodles will have a coat that is curlier and may be less shedding than an F1b Goldendoodle. The coat of an F1bb Goldendoodle can range from wavy to curly and may be low to non-shedding.

It's important to note that coat characteristics are not always predictable and can vary within each generation. Additionally, regular grooming and coat maintenance is required to keep a Goldendoodle's coat in good condition.

Taking care of a Goldendoodle's coat is an important part of being a responsible pet owner. Proper grooming can help keep your Goldendoodle's coat in good condition, reduce shedding, and prevent skin problems. Here are some tips for grooming your Goldendoodle's coat:

  1. Brush your Goldendoodle's coat regularly: A good brush can help remove loose hair, tangles, and mats. You can use a slicker brush, a pin brush, or a metal comb to brush your Goldendoodle's coat. Brushing should be done at least once a week, but more often if your Goldendoodle has a longer coat.
  2. Trim your Goldendoodle's hair: Goldendoodles have hair, not fur, which means they don't shed as much as other breeds, but they need regular grooming to keep them looking their best. You can trim your Goldendoodle's hair with scissors or clippers, but it's best to have a professional groomer do it if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.
  3. Bathe your Goldendoodle: Goldendoodles should be bathed every 1-2 weeks. Use a mild, tearless shampoo and conditioner to help maintain the natural oils in your Goldendoodle's coat. Be sure to rinse thoroughly to prevent skin irritation.
  4. Keep your Goldendoodle's ears clean: Goldendoodles have floppy ears that can trap dirt and bacteria, which can lead to infections. Clean your Goldendoodle's ears once a week with a cotton ball and a mild ear cleaning solution.
  5. Trim your Goldendoodle's nails: Long nails can be painful for your Goldendoodle, and they can also get caught on things and break. Trim your Goldendoodle's nails every 2-3 weeks.
  6. Dental hygiene is also important for your Goldendoodle, brush their teeth at least twice a week.

It's important to remember that grooming your Goldendoodle's coat is an ongoing process, not just a one-time task. If you're not comfortable grooming your Goldendoodle yourself, it's best to hire a professional groomer to do it for you. With proper care and grooming, your Goldendoodle's coat will be healthy and beautiful for many years to come.
